On Thursday, we celebrated World Book Day! It was brilliant to see so many different character costumes!
We began the day by being phoneme detectives and seeing how many particular sounds we could find in our new story books. Elephants found 92 tricky words!
After this, we created character descriptions of the characters we had dressed up as. We began by all introducing ourselves as our new character and discussed as a class, all the different adjectives we could use to describe us. We first drew and labelled our pictures, before writing a description of our character.
In the afternoon, after our music lesson, we looked through the World Book Day information to find out why World Book day is important and why we celebrate it. We discussed how there are lots of times in the day that we can read and lots of people we can read to, even if we just want to read by ourselves. We then had some quiet reading time, where we read our favourite books to each other and discussed and talked about what we enjoyed about the books.
Following this, we designed our own bookmarks to use when we are reading at home, before listening to an read-aloud story to end our day.
We had lots of fun dressing up and encouraging a love for reading.
